Looking forward to the new Sense and Sensibility.

But would a Black adaptation of Mansfield Park be even more potent? As Sir Thomas actually owns a plantation in Antigua?

Great! And yes Mansfield Park would be perfect for this and it would inspire so much historical query and dialogue. You probably know - and scholars point out that MP could have been influenced by the life of Dido Elizabeth Belle, who was raised by her great-uncle Lord Mansfield, on the estate of the Lord Chancellor who ruled on a couple of important decisions regarding slave trade laws. Jane Austen knew Belle’s cousin Elizabeth Murray, and they were raised together on the Mansfield’s’ estate. A lot of interesting connections there!

I knew about Dido but not all of the connections. The possibilities would be fascinating.
